Abstract: Objective To test the susceptibility of 20% Tianying Termite-killing EC (fenvalerate),5% Bifenthrin SC,15% Wanjie Termite-killing EC (3% imidacloprid+12% cypermethrin),and 48% Chlorpyrifos EC on the workers of Coptotermes formosanus. Methods The toxic and repellent effects of four preventive termiticides on the workers of C.formosanus were evaluated by the filter paper chemical-dipping method,the toxic soil method and toxic soil pillar method in laboratory. Results Among the four chemicals tested,48% Chlorpyrifos EC had the best toxic and repellent effects on the workers of C.formosanus,followed by 20% Tianying Termite-killing EC and 15% Wanjie Termite-killing EC was the least. The workers of C.formosanus exposed to soil treated by ≥20 mg/L solution of fenvalerate,or bifenthrin,chlorpyrifos,and imidacloprid+cypermethrin died within 8 days. The workers of C.formosanus could not pass through 5 cm length soil treated by ≥200 mg/L solution of fenvalerate,or bifenthrin,chlorpyrifos,and imidacloprid+cypermethrin. Conclusion All these four chemicals tested could be used for the prevention of termites. However,considering the control effect and environmental safety of chemical,use of 20% Tianying Termite-killing EC in termite control of houses and buildings is the best selection for users.
