Abstract: Two isolates (HN24) and HN36)of chikungunya virus isolated from culex fatigans and bats captured in zhan county, Hainan, are reported in this paper. Electron microscopic observation of the isolates showed that they were characterized by spherical enveloped alphavirus particles with a diameter of 50~65 nm. The isolates could grow in C6/36 cells and EHK 21 cells, and showed marked CPE. They could induce illness, and were sensitive to acid and ether but resistant to 5-Fduk. Both the isolates were identified as chikungunya virus by immunofluorecent and neutralization tests.
