Abstract: Objective To understand the distribution and ecology characteristics of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in Pudong international airdrome. Methods Bednet trap method, lamp baited trap method, human baited trap method and larvae collection method should be used in the investigation. Results The dominant population was Cx.tritaeniorhynchus in Pudong international airdrome that could bite human from May to October. The seasonal fluctuation curves was wavy. It appeared firstly in May, and the peak occurred from July to August, and then declined gradually from September to October and disappeared in the end of October. Cx.tritaeniorhynchus was activated in night and inactivated in the daytime (bednet trap method). It had the characteristics of swarming at dark. The activity peak of Cx.tritaeniorhynchus occurred in 1-3 h after sunset. The highest biting rate reached15 times/15 mins (human baited trap method). The probability of Cx.tritaeniorhynchus entering room was extremely low. The larva breed mainly in calm and clean water of pond, pool, bottomland and ditch etc. Conclusion Cx.tritaeniorhynchus was a common bite-human species in Pudong international airdrome. The study on the activity regularity of Cx.tritaeniorhynchus could provide the information for the establishment of control tactics and the management of insect-borne disease.
