Abstract: After eliminating Aedes aegypti from Guangxi, we began to carry out a systematic surveillance program from 1993 by:(1) placing egg traps in fomer existent areas for Ae. aegypti;(2) making regular general surveys and(3) checking boats coming from infested areas. We checked 2820 egg traps altogether, of which, 868 were infested with Ae, albopictus[container infested index(cii)was 26.31] and 118 were infested with culex mosquitoes(cii was 4.18).In regular general surveys in 5174 households, we checked 10556 water storage containers altogether, of which,740 were infested with Ae.albopictus(cii was 7.01) and 596 were infested with Culex mosquitoes (cii was 5.65).As for the boats coming from infested areas, we checked 704 in all with 1875 water storage containers on board, but did not find any mosquitoes. No Ae. aegypti was found by all these three surveillance metheds.The cii ob tained from egg trap method was 2.75 times higher than that from general survey method. The differ ence between them was very significant(P=5.459,P_0.5=2.776,P_0.01=8.61).At present, there are still some difficulties in checking all the boats coming from infested areas, but if we insist on placing egg traps in former existent areas and making regular general surveys, it is still possible for us to find the newly imported Ae, aegypti, therefore, we could regard them as important surveillance measures.
