Abstract: A survey of the Vertical distribution of Fleas was undertaken in June to August, 1980 at Laojun Mountain, Yunnan. The topography was divided into four vertical zones, as 2,500-3,000m., 3,000-3,500m., 3,500-4,000m., and 4,000-4,347m. eacb. The resaults are shown as tab and fig:1. Altogether 1,973 fleas of 22 species were obtained, which belong to four families and twelve genera. Among which, Geusibia yunnanensis Xie et Gong, 1982 and Palaeopsylla yunnanensis Xie et Yang, 1982 were described as new to science. The dominant species in this collection were Ctenophthalmus quadratus Liu et Wu, 1960, C. yunnanus Jordan, 1932, Frontopsylla diqingensis Li et Hsieh (Xie), 1974 and Neopsylla specialit speciolis Jordan, 1932.2. The species makeup, number and indeces of the fleas varied as the natural conditions, such ar the altitude, flora as well as the vertical distribution of their hosts. The diferences were significant.3. The zonal differences of the vertical distribution of the fleas are dependent on the distributtion of their hosts. And on the other hand, the dispersal of fleas may be limited by the physiogeographical barriers, e. g. the altitude, climatic factors, humidity, temperature etc., bacause the developmental stages of the hosts require suitable conditions which are directly influenced by the environmental factors.
