Survey of foraging populations and territories of Reticulitermes speratus (Isoptera:Rhinotermitidae) in the field

栖北散白蚁取食群体大小及觅食范围的研究

Abstract: Objective Obtaining the information of foraging populations and territories of Reticulitermes speratus(Kolbe) colony. Methods Proceeding sample survey to the R. speratus in the field about 18 000 m2 area from 2013-2015 in Qingdao, Shandong province. Applying triple-mark-release-recapture method using the dye marker Nile blue A and Neutral red to indicate foraging populations and territories of the R. speratus colony. Results There are five colonies of the R. speratus(Ⅰ-Ⅴ)in this area. The mean weight of a worker is about:2.22, 1.97, 1.92, 1.92,and 2.08 mg. The foraging populations of Ⅰ, Ⅲ-Ⅴ colony contained about 3.96×106, 0.86×106, 0.67×106, and 1.78×106 individuals(No corresponding number for colony Ⅱ was available since insufficient sample was collected). The linear foraging distance was about 55.1, 35.0, 36.3, 26.6, and 94.4 m. The foraging territory encompass an area about 814, 396, 466, 567, and 3 040 m2. Conclusion Reticulitermes speratus colony can have large foraging populations up to 3.96 million individuals, and a linear foraging distance up to 94.4 m, the foraging territory encompassing an area of up to 3 040 m2.

摘要: 目的 明确栖北散白蚁取食群体大小及觅食范围。方法 于2013-2015年,在山东省青岛市东杨戈庄采用三重捕获标记法在18000 m2区域内进行取样研究;使用尼罗蓝(Nile blue)和中性红(Neutral red)两种生物染色剂,通过标记-释放-重捕采集白蚁样本,计算、推测出白蚁群体觅食个体数量、觅食最远直线距离及觅食范围。结果 该区域内共分布5个(Ⅰ~Ⅴ)栖北散白蚁群体,每个群体工蚁个体平均体质量分别为2.22、1.97、1.92、1.92、2.08 mg;Ⅰ、Ⅲ~Ⅴ号群体觅食个体数量分别为3.96×106、0.86×106、0.67×106、1.78×106只(Ⅱ号群体因特殊情况未采集到足够样本,未测出觅食群体数量);5个群体觅食最大直线距离分别为55.1、35.0、36.3、26.6、94.4 m;觅食范围分别为814、396、466、567、3040 m2结论 栖北散白蚁群体可拥有巨大的觅食个体数量,最多可达3.96×106只,觅食最远直线距离可达94.4 m,觅食最大面积可达3040 m2
