Abstract: The studies showed that Yunnan strain of Aedes albopictus could be infected and multiply Chikungunya (CHIK) virus in their bodies by bite to viremic chickens.Infected female mosquitoes were capable of transmitting CHIK virus to suckling mice and chickens by biting and sucking blood.Their transmission rates to suckling mice were 50%~85.71% on the 8th day to the 12th day after infection and transmission rate to chickens were 58.33% on the 10th day after infection. The results indicate that Ae.albopictus mosquitoes have the potential to play a role in the maintenance and transmission of CHIK virus in nature.
