Toxicity of Acetamiprid Against Reticulitermes dabieshanensis

Objective To determine the toxicity of acetamiprid against Reticulitermes dabieshanensis so as to provide the theoretical basis for developing new termiticides.Methods Two methods were applied in this study.One method was to dip the filter paper in the different concentrations of acetamiprid solution,and then put in the Petri dish padded moistened sands.Then 30 Reticulitermes dabieshanensis were introduced into the Petri dish,and the mortality was recorded every 24h.For the other method, Reticulitermes dabieshanensis individuals were treated by topical method with different concentrations of acetamiprid.Then the treated individuals were introduced into Petri dish with moistened sands in the bottom,and the mortality was recorded in certain times after treatment.Results Active speed of acetamiprid against Reticulitermes dabieshanensiswas low,the best toxic effects occurred at 144 h after treatment.But Reticulitermes dabieshanensis was rather susceptive to acetamiprid,the LD 50at 24 h was only 7.00×10 -5μg/termite.Conclusion Acetamiprid has a good toxic efficacy to Reticulitermes dabieshanensis,its possibility for termite control in practice deserves further study in the near future.
Study on Diapause Eggs of Aedes albopictus Vertical Transmission of DEN-2

Objective To determine whether DEN-2 can survive in diapause eggs and be transmitted vertically to progeny of infected Aedes albopictus.Methods Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) combined with virus isolation in C6/36 cell were used for assay of the DEN-2 in diapause eggs and progeny of infected Aedes albopictus in labortary.Results DEN-2 was detected in diapause eggs and progeny after termintaed diapause.The total positive rate of pools was 9.6%,the minimum infection rate of the progeny was 1:294.3;DEN-2 was not isolated from the progeny of the first oviposition cycle.The minimum infection rates were not significantly different for the second and third oviposition cycle(χ 2=0.01, P>0.05).Conclusion DEN-2 can survive in diapause eggs and be transmitted vertically to progeny of Aedes albopictus.

Objective To research on rat-control capabilities of the yellow weasel.Methods Artificial feeding.Results The yellow weasel only ate the animal food under the chance of choice,and loved to eat the rat.The consumption of animal food was 20% or so of its body weight;the activity time of the different season was different.Conclusion The yellow weasel can be used for the rat-control of particular environment;It is necessary to feed artificially,observe,analysis yellow weasel habit,for further utilizing on rat-control of the yellow weasel to provide the data.

Survey of Rodent and Relative Pathogens at Changbei Airport Nanchang City,Jiangxi Province

Objective To identify rodent damage and relative pathogens to provide basis for prevention at Changbei Airport.Methods Representative points for survey were selected.Field survey and experimental studies.Results There were 7 rodent species,4 genera,2 families,2 orders.The dominant species was Mus musculus(37.98%).The rodent densities of each month were from 0.67% to 7.87%.The annual average density of rodent was 3.62.The carrying rates of mite,flea,tick on rodent were 19.05%,4.76%,4.76% respectively.The tests of leptospirosis and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) in rodent were negative.Conclusion The measure of rodent control is benefit to wipe out the damage of both rodent and relative pathogens.

Current Situation and Control Strategy of the Field Rodents near PoYang Lake

Objective To investigate the control effectiveness of the field rodents and the density restorative situation of rodent population,which would aid for effective measures in rodent control.Methods To study on the censuses and analysis the relation between the recovery of rodent population after chemical control and the regimen of PoYang lake,and to reveal the vulnerable spot in the rodent control work.Results The recovery rate of population after using rodenticides was very fast when there were only once control activity with rodenticides in spring,sometimes the rat density was higher than that at the same time last year.If there were twice,the lower rat density would obtain.Conclusion For successful rodents control near by PoYang lake,the rodent control with nodenticide must be combined with improving general sanitary,and it was effective to carry out twice control programmes with rodenticides in spring and in autumn.
Study on the Community Structures of Rodents Left in Xiamen Harbour

Objective To study the community structures and control strategies of the rodents left,and its seasonal variations in 4 different docks of Xiamen Port.Methods Trap night method was used to survey rats in every single months from January,1999 to December,2000.Results In the Container Dock and in the Bulk Cargo Dock,they both included: Suncus murinus+R.norvegicus+R.flavipectus.In the Coal Dock,it was: Suncus murinus+R.flavipectus+R.losea.In the Passenger Dock,Suncus murinus was the dominant species. Suncus murinus was the dominant species in Xiamen port.Conclusion The indices of biological diversity were distinct in different docks and the highest was found in the Container Dock.The index of rodent communities similarty between Container Dock and Bulk Cargo Dock was the highest.

Study on Time Niche Among the Ectoparasites of the Rodent in Dongling Mountain in Beijing

Objective To investigate the time niche of ectoparasites of the rodent in Dongling Mountain,Western Beijing.Methods The niche breadth and niche overlap of 18 dominant species of ectoparasites in resource-series formed by 7 species of rodents were calculated.The species of ectoparasites with great niche overlap were classified as one niche overlap group by clustering analysis.Results The values of time niche breadth of Neopsylla specialis,Ixodes persulcatus,Laelaps micromydis,and Lepotrombidium orientale were the widest in different ectoparasite type.The value of niche overlap of the dominant ectoparasites seen to be high,e.g. Laelaps echidninus and L.orientale,N.bidentatiformis and N.specialis,Haemogamasus calandrellus and N.specialis.ConclusionThose ectoparasite species with high value of niche overlap emerged on the same season.
Analysis of the Chemical Insecticide Resistance of Mosquitoes in Shandong Province

Objective To discuss the insecticide resistance status of mosquitoes in different areas and different periods.Methods WHO bio-assay and distinguishing dosage method.Results The pyrethroid resistance of different areas and different periods was high at large,the propoxur resistance was high at large dosage area,and Acetophenate resistance emerged in some area.In some area,there was still high DDT resistance where it had been ceased use for several years,and the Acetophenate resistance level in some area was close to sensitive strain's.Conclusion The resistance of mosquitoes of different insecticide had obvious discrimination in different regions,and it was related to the use frequency.The use of single insecticide for a long time will raise the resistant level,and reasonable use of insecticides is needed.

Meteorological Analysis of the First Emergence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in Fengxian District, Shanghai

Objective To approach to the meteorological conditions of the first emergence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in Spring.Methods Whole night collection of mosquitoes(from 18∶00 o'clock to 6∶00 o'clock of the following day) with light traps was carried out in pigsties every night since March 1 st every year.The adult mosquitoes caught were anaesthetized,then identified and counted.The density of mosquitoes was calculated by the average number of mosquito per trap and one night.Comparative analysis of the meteorological data at the first emergence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Anopheles sinensis were made.Results The meteorological conditions of the first emergence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus in Spring were as follows:①In 2-3 days before the first emergence of Culex tritaeniorhynchus there blew strong S-system wind on the ground level and at 850 HPA(1 500m),accompanying with sudden increasing of the wind speed(>5.0 m/s) of S-system direction on the ground and the increasing of the frequency( 94.9% and 82.4%) of SW direction at HPA,as well as the water vapour pressure increasing on the day of the first appearance and the day before.②There were fronts passing through Fengxian,Shanghai or shear of wind direction in the first appearance of Culex tritaeniorhynchus from 1 a.m.to 6 a.m.of the following day,and the frequancy of the precipitation from 8 p.m.to 6 a.m.of the following day was 69.2%(9/13).③The variations of atmospheric pressure in the 12 hours from 8 p.m.to 8 a.m.of the following day were all possitive value.Conclusion The meteorological conditions of Culex tritaeniorhynchus emerging in spring were not the same as that of the Anopheles sinensis which overwintered in local area but in conformity with the landing pattern of seasonal northward migratory insects,which were transported by the SW-air-current and the sinking airflow due to the passing through of the front with the rain-fall,or the shear of wind direction and the positive variations of atmospheric pressure.Therefore,it demonstrated another indirect evidence of northward migration of Culex tritaeniorhynchus.

Objective In order to investigate the functions of IGRs to growth and reproduction of Bllattella germanica,the sterilization of chitin synthesis inhibitors against Bllattella germanica was studied too.Methods Contacting and bait methods were used and the pathology changing of CA,fat body and reproductive system were observed under stereomicroscope and microscope.Contents of the protein in ovary,DNA and RNA in ovary and spermary were determined.Results Chitin synthesis inhibitors have some juvenile hormone effect.The two are unite efforts in Bllattella germanica.Fat body is one of the target to IGRs,the contents of DNA and RNA in spermary,RNA and protein in ovary increased all but the content of DNA in ovary decreased.Conclusion The sterilization of the Chitin synthesis inhibitors in male Bllattella germanica may be related to the chitin blocking but not to the hindering of RNA and DNA,the sterilization in female Bllattella germanica may be related to the decreasing of DNA in ovary.

Objective To investigate the four pests(rat,mosquito,housefly and cockroach) ecologic environment by planned construction of residential quarter of Shalco.Methods To compare the pros and cons of four pests' ecologic environment by planned construction of residential quarter.Results The four pests' ecologic environment has been at a great deal destroyed due to the following facts:demolishment of 122 sets of single-storey house,blocking 166 passageways of building apartment,setting up markets of agricultural products and foodstuff in residential quarter and then clearing away the pedlars at roadsides,dredging ditches,cleaning up street corners and lanes,removing constructional dump in front of the building,etc.The integration of the supplying warm wind,thermal island effect and green house effect brought about a density peak of flies and mosquitoes and cockroach in March and April.Large-scale plantation resulted in the increase in grass land mosquito density.Conclusion The rectifying scheme of destroying four pests' ecologic environment should be put into the designing of the residential quarter.And leaders' attention and every variety of fund is the basic guarantee.The direction of disinfecting and control by chemical drug should be adjusted after the environment change,meanwhile,control of mosquito and housefly and cockroach in winter should also be strengthened especially.
Influence of the Rodent Density to the Leptospirosis Epidemic

Objective To study the influence of the rodent density to the incidence of leptospirosis,and work out the methods to prevent and control the leptospirosis epidemic.Methods By retrospective study and prevalence survey,we collected incidence information through certifiable infectious disease reporting system,collected hydrology weather information at the relevant department,surveyed the rat density according to methods issued by the Committee of Patriotic Health Campaign,analyzed the data by linear correlation,and searched for the relationship between flood disasters and the incidence of leptospirosis,the relationship between flood disasters and rat density,the relationship between rat density and the incidence of leptospirosis.Results There was positive correlation ship between rat density and the incidence of leptospirosis,the incidence of leptospirosis.If the local rat density is more than 10%,there will may be a epidemic of leptospirosis.Conclusion The rat density can be looked as an important indicator of leptospirosis surveillance and epidemic forecast.
Analysis of Epidemic Characteristics of Spermophilus dauricus Pallas Plague in Recent Years

Objective To analyze the epidemic characteristics of Inner Mongolia S.dauricus plague during 1991-2000.Methods To investigate the plague each year according to "Surveillance Program of Inner Mongolia plague".Results There were plague epidemic every year in 1990s except 1993 among 7 counties,and it was 28% of total S.dauricus Pallas plague counties;The infected animal was only S.dauricus Pallas.There were two infected vectors.One new county was discovered with plague.Conclusion Animal plague in low hill was continuously epidemic.Plague in Chahaer hill was snatchy epidemic and revived in Wongniute Banner and Wulanhaote of Songliao plain where controlled before,there were no epidemic in other places.

Surveillance and Prevention of Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome in Yellow River Delta

Objective To study the feature of HFRS focus,and analyze the mechanism of occurrence and the epidemic rules in Shengli Oilfield by surveillance of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS),in order to control rodents scientifically and to decrease the morbidity rate due to HFRS.Methods To investigate the morbidity rate by collecting data and non-reported cases.The antibody of serum was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays(ELISA).The antigen of Hantavirus(HV) was detected by immunofluorescent antibody assay(FA).The species and the density of rodent was investigated by trap-night method.Poisonous bait stations were used to control the rodents.Results The morbidity rate was 12.5 to 17.5/100 000.The recessive infection rate of man was 2.81 percent detected by immunoglobulin M,4.21 percent detected by immunoglobulin G.The recessive infection rate of woman was 5.83 percent detected by immunoglobulin M,4.17 percent detected by immunoglobulin G.The index of carrying Hantavirus in rodents was 0.082 in domestic rodents,0.025 in wild rodents;There mainly were Rattus norvegicus and Mus musculus in residential area, Apodemus agrarius,Cricetulus triton and Cricetulus barabensis in field.The rodent control rate was 79.91 per cent by trap-night method,91.41 per cent by powder-trace method.Conclusion The HFRS epidemic situation of Shandong province was of low level.The main cases occurred with sporadic character.The symptom of patient was not serious usually.It seemed that the characteristics of the natural focus should mainly belong to the domestic type from the rate of HV carrier of rodents and the lever of recessive infection.The rodent control efficacy was perfect with the poisonous bait stations,which was think better of generalized.
