Abstract: The Ili pika(Ochotona iliensis Li et Ma,1986) is an alpine animal inhabiting in the rock areas in the Tainshan Mountain at an altitude of 2800-to 4100 metres, which has a very small numbers and limited distribution. areas Autbors liad raised the pika in a laboratory imitated the field habitat built in Yining City(an elevation of 660 metres) of Xinjiang.For 10 months, it had been observed under the condition of artificial feeding including capacity for eating, change of feeding habits,adaptability for lolw altitude circumstances, infection of diseases and so on.The results show that the alpine animal can adapt oneself to a new artificial environment of low elevation and can change the feeding habits from field plants to vegetables(celery and others).The species is gentle and docile,and its recipe is widely.In addition, the raise and train are easier tha other animals。It seems that the Ili pika may decome a new kind laboratory animal.
